A mirror finish on stainless steel is a highly reflective, smooth
finish with a scratch free appearance, achieved through polishing
the stainless steel. Also known as a #8 finish, a mirror finish can
be achieved mechanically, using a progressive series of abrasives
and polishing compounds.

| Advantages | The mirror finish on stainless steel enhances its appearance and
consistency, making its cleaning easier. It also masks the
after-effects of welding and hides surface damage, if any. The
benefit of the mirror finish is that it also improves corrosion
resistance. |
Polishing improves consistency and appearance, helps practicality
to fabricate and repair/blend after welding and to mask minor
damage, it also makes cleaning easier. Satin Polished stainless
steel is widely available, relatively low cost, practical in use,
and the most frequently employed.
